Over at Poleego, I just posted a blog entry called “Twinternship Week 1.” It is a re-cap of my own thoughts and really explains what I am extracting from the Internship at Careerealism. Check it out if you’ve ever needed some pointers in personal branding. I’ll keep updating on a weekly basis to log my experiences.
Providing Attention and Value To Others
June 5th, 2009 | Posted by in Personal Branding - (0 Comments)I finally got around to setting up the new StevenARodriguez.com website after much hosting issues, time management, HTML mark-up and other extensive language jargon. Needless to say that it should be working now.
Most programs and workshops I’ve been attending on student/career development all share one fundamental principle: brand yourself! With the economic down-time we are experiencing, it is becoming even more competitive to find a job, even basic McDonald’s jobs! There is a gap between academic success and real-world success; simply getting A’s is not enough. Our experiences outside the academic setting are key in advertising ourselves as highly outstanding investments to others; we are a business of ONE, so market yourselves appropriately. Personal Branding is about standing out among the ocean of people and being a “great catch!”
I am aware not everyone is able to partake in many programs and workshops that can benefit us; academic ineligibility, limited enrollment, life, etc. My personal goal is to give value to people, something that sparks interest or a discussion; perhaps reinforce an existing truth or create an “Aha!” moment; to understand and share opportunities that will benefit the community. This Personal Branding weblog is one way to share my experiences and impart useful knowledge about all these programs and opportunities that can help us communicate up to our potential; to bridge the gap between academic and real-world success.
In today’s world we are global citizens, and can learn/benefit from each other. We as a species would not have survived if not for working together, so let us continue that winning concept. I hope everyone is able extract something useful/meaningful from this site.
